Trash to Treasure

When you're little you picture yourself being a certain way when you grow up... married, a nice home, a job, maybe having a family someday. I can suspect that most no one pictures themselves standing out in the dark, in a parking lot, at 10:30 at night, holding a flashlight for their husband while he digs through a garbage can (that is not yours). Me either...however, this is where I've found myself this evening, haha! We went to check our mailbox a few hours ago, and periodically stores around Edmond send out "free money" cards (for example, $10 off a purchase of at least $10 = free). We got one of these today from the department store Kohl's. Situated ever so nicely next to all of the our mailboxes (they are community mailboxes, so there are about 100 boxes together) is a gray trashcan. This trashcan is forever overflowing with junk mail and newspapers. Most people check their mailbox, and chunk about 90% of the contents (flyers, ads, etc...) which we receive every single week.

I would be lying if I told you that we have not done this before :). We return to our apartment (like trained professionals), scheme a plan, wait for dark, and attack. Me armed with a large metal MagLight (a good, bright light..but also heavy enought to hit someone in the head with!), and Eric with a grin, we head back out into the night in search of freebies. Needless to say, after tonight's adventure, we walked away with $80 free money to Kohl's Department Store. There are no gimmicks, it's free money. (Now try to tell me that nothing in life is free! haha). I'll personally admit that I lived on McDonald's McCafe frappachinos for about a week solid when they first came out. We received a card for a free frappachino in our mailbox the week they premiered, and low and behold....that little gray trashcan was full of them that evening! People don't even look at the cards, they just see an advertisement and chunk it. Thank you Jesus for a garbage, trash, dumpster diving husband!

You can bet on the fact that we'll be visiting Kohl's each night this week! People are silly sometimes, and people who are even sillier benefit! We might look like a couple of nuts, but you can't beat free money. Amen?
